We are currently planning for our costume contest to be held on Saturday the 18th. We are working on a Best Individual and a Best Group contest. As things become clearer, this will be updated.
Sign up will be available all day, up to 1 hour before the contest OR until we run out of spots (so sign up early).
Contest will be open to ages 13 and older. We will likely find a way to have a childrens cosplay event as well.
This is a family friendly contest with children in attendance, so lets avoid overt nudity or gore.
Real firearms are not permitted. Real swords, knives, etc must be approved by security and Heroes Assemble staff.
No glitter, confetti, pyrotechnics, live flames, fireworks, projectiles, or smoke generators of any kind are permitted.
No live animals will be permitted except for service animals.
If you require a handler to enter and/or exit the stage, please consult the con staff so that we can make arrangements.
A short skit or performance is not required, but adds flavor to your walk on. Performances are capped at one minute.
Costumes that require power must be self-contained. There can be no extension cords on stage due to safety concerns.
Due to the convention’s potential liability, no acrobatics are allowed during a performance.
No “horseplay” or other rude behavior. Contestants may be held liable if found to have damaged another contestant’s costume or belongings or the facility itself. Rude behavior includes both physical and verbal assaults to another individual.
Participants will be required to sign a video/photography release and participants under the age of 18 must have a written release from a parent or guardian.
Staff members and invited guests/attractions are not eligible for cosplay contests.
Michaela Lee, also known as Mika Cosplay/ 01Mika is an actress, cosplayer, and Twitch streamer. Although Mika is new to the industry, she has blown up quickly being sponsored by the largest cosplay costume companies, on the cover of cosplay magazines and novels, starring in films & music videos, and growing an amazing, supportive Twitch community. When in doubt strike up a conversation about League of Legends with her.
Vrokar has been cosplaying since 2016 and is easily most recognized for his incredible portrayal of Deadpool. When he’s not running around at conventions cracking jokes and causing shenanigans, he spends most of his cosplay time Volunteering with Stillbrave, a Children’s Cancer charity based in DC. Additionally he is the Director of Community Outreach for The Once upon a Foundation, another Children’s Charity organization. He also greatly enjoys the challenges and learning that comes from every new prop or armor piece he builds for himself and others. Check him out on Instagram @Vrokar
Mostly known for her Assassin's Creed and Bloodrayne cosplays, Summer Noelle has been cosplaying for over a decade and has appeared at many conventions up and down the east coast.
Summer is no stranger when it comes to stepping out of her comfort zone, especially when it comes to making a costume. She is constantly trying to improve her skills and push the limit on her cosplaying abilities. Working with a wide variety of materials from Foam to Latex, furs, and more, Summer has proven that she can "make anything work."
Mighty Morfin Cosplay has been designing, making and wearing costumes for over 7 years. She likes to pull characters from a wide range of pop culture, but mostly from the Pokemon, Marvel, and DC universes. She loves to genderbend and switch from heroes to villains; you may also find her doing a crossover with a superhero costume and a life-size pokemon paper mache prop. She builds all her costumes and props, so her journey as a self taught seamstress and prop maker has come a long way. She also does painting and drawing on the side, her biggest passion next to cosplaying. Being a teacher as her day job, she loves meeting and talking to adults and kids so don't be shy in saying hi or asking for a picture!
When we launched the Heroes Assemble initiative, Frank and his family were among the first to volunteer to help out! He is an incredible cosplayer, artist and the host of Richmond's #1 video countdown (on our sponsor network CW Richmond)!
We are so happy to have him as part of the event!
Devon Galena is a wild librarian with nothing to prove. She likes pro-wrestling, b-movies, and going to the ren faire. Despite loving everything Sanrio, she staunchly refuses to believe that Hello Kitty is really a girl and not a cat. She’s been in the FanDames for 6 years.
Chiki Cosplay developed her sewing expertise under the tutelage of head costume designers for operas and professional theaters. Chiki Cosplay excels in craftsmanship, never shying away from any costume which requires minute detailing or difficult techniques. She has won a multitude of awards, including several best in show for construction and masquerade skits. Chiki Cosplay has now found a calling as a judge and contest coordinator, judging craftsmanship at conventions all over the east coast. She has been a featured judge at Animazement, Katsucon, Nekocon and Nashicon. In addition to judging, she makes appearances as a cosplay guest and panelist, sharing her wealth of costuming knowledge as well as her other passions like Disney and Fallout. When not working at conventions, she focused on her photography career and is on the board of community service organization: CausePlay Carolinas.
May Hemmer is known as "The Sassiest Thing in New Orleans" and has been dubbed the "Cocoa Barbie" by Vita DeVoid of Florida. This lady has a larger than life personality and has been gracing the stages with nerdlesque, neo-burlesque, and much more since 2011. As a member of the Storyville Starlettes and The Bluestockings, she performed regularly at Burlesque Ballroom, Big Deal Burlesque, and many more independent shows and private events around NOLA.
Her solo debut has included performances at the Southern Fried Burlesque Festival, Arizona Burlesque Festival, Great Southern Exposure, and many other productions for the troupe BurlEscapades in Phoenix, AZ. She was recognized in 2015, as the Master of Tassels in the Louisiana Regional Burlypicks and is both the 2016 Shimmy Showdown Siobhan Atomica Brown Noser and Jeez Loueez Boo Bitch Bye award winner.
Now life has whisked her on to a new state...North Carolina! Now one of the newest members of the Discordia Dames of Greensboro, NC. Not only has she traveled in the south but all over the country and is continuing to take the country by storm one state at a time. But did she stop there? No! Not only did she attend her first international festival by attending the Montreal Burlesque Festival, she is now the 2017 Miss Montreal Burlesque and Lili St. Cyr award winner.
She is not only a burlesque performer but a cosplayer as well! Her roots in costuming led to her love of nerdlesque as it was right up her ally. This led to her performing at various cons and all things nerdy around the country. Her love of cosplay now revitalizes, she's hitting the sewing machine hard again to bring to life some of her favorite fandoms both on and off the stage.
